Best Of Thailand finished with amazing results

Best Of Thailand - the pilot edition of the Alliance for coffee excellence was held in the period 10-13.10.2022 in the capital Bangkok. See the winners here: Best of Thailand - Alliance For Coffee Excellence For the first time in the country, a competition is being held to evaluate local coffee producers. The coffee industry has developed very rapidly in recent years, and this naturally leads to an increase in the demand and supply of specialty coffee.

Thailand is one of the small producers of coffee, and the production is not exported, but remains for the meat market. The coffee produced is mostly robusta, but recently there has been an orientation towards Arabica and in particular towards specialty Arabica. In recent years, farmers and coffee shop owners have worked together to develop the specialty coffee market in Thailand, which is growing every year. The country has a very high standard and specialty coffee is present in most coffee shops in the country. And now, after the competition, it can be seen that the farmers are also gradually focusing on the production of better coffee - or quality at the expense of quantity.

The Cup Of Excellence competition, held for the first time in Thailand, will motivate farmers to improve the quality of their produce. The international jury was composed of 10 members, each with 10 participations in the Cup Of Excellence and many years of experience in coffee tasting. A single European was invited, namely - our coffee hunter Jordan Dabov. Within 3 days, experienced tasters selected 15 of the best coffees in the country. But the standout among them all was the coffee that won 1st place.

The coffee that won first place is invariably Geisha...

This does not surprise us. Here's what Jordan Dabov says: "When I tried it, I thought: "Wow, how did a Panamanian geisha get to Thailand". This coffee reminded me a lot of the geishas of Panama, with its specific jasmine aroma, light citrus notes, fresh and full.” He tells this assumption of his to the other members of the jury, who start laughing.

After finding out what the 1st place coffee was, owner Caleb Jore Dance shared, “In 2003, I met the Peterson family at their farm in La Esmeralda, Panama. Then they gave me some coffee beans of their unique geisha, which I wanted to plant in my farm. I had no idea what would happen, but my intuition told me to try.” Undoubtedly, this coffee, whose roots are from Panama, deserves the cherished 92.82 points. And Jordan Dabov himself rated it with 96 points. Caleb has only produced 60kg of this treasure, which will be auctioned off on November 17th.

We are not sure that we will be able to get hold of even grams of this coffee, but our coffee hunter has returned from Thailand with several kilos of wonderful Thai coffee, which we will present to your attention very soon. And while we wait for it - we can also follow the video diary of our coffee hunter from Thailand together.
