The new Cup of Excellence Brazil 2019 winner is the farmer André Luis Aguila Ribeiro whose coffee gained 92.23 points.
The results of the 20th edition of the Cup of Excellence Brazil 2019 were announced on Saturday, 19th October. With an impressive 92.23 points, farmer André Luis Aguila Ribeiro of the Pai e Filho farm won the competition. Brazil’s highest ranking specialty coffee is produced in the famous Sul de Minas coffee region – southern Minas Gerais, around the town of Ibiraci. There is one more coffee in top 10 from Ibiraci – obviously the year was very good in terms of coffee there.
During the CoE Brazil’s 2019 award ceremony Silvio Leiche described the winner’s coffee as “multidimensional. Each time we tasted it, it revealed new flavors. One of the three coffees I’ve given 100 points to date.” The coffee is of the Yellow Catuai variety and is a dry processed.
Andre Ribeiro is also Brazil’s 2019 Cup Taster’s Champion or the country’s top professional cupper, who participated in the World Championships in Berlin.
What draws attention is that of the 27 prize-winners selected from the finalists of the international jury, in which our coffee hunter Jordan Dabov also participated, only 5 are not from the state of Minas Gerais – three are from Bahia, one from São Paulo and one from Espirito Santo.
We expect Jordan Dabov in Sofia to learn from him all the interesting things about the competition, and we also hope to have a peak into the notes he made while cupping, so we will know more about the coffees flavors. The final event in CoE Brazil 2019 is the online auction of the award-winning coffees in November.
