Jordan Dabov is the only juror from Bulgaria at the jubilee edition of the competition for the best specialty coffees in the world!
Today the 20th anniversary edition of the Cup of Excellence competition starts in Brazil. It takes place exactly where it all began two decades ago – in the small university town of Lavras in the state of Minas Gerais. But while the competition was named Best of Brazil in 1999, today it has already become the event where international jurors find the highest quality specialty coffees not only in Brazil but also in Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Burundi and Rwanda, with an upcoming first edition in Ethiopia.
Jordan Dabov at the Cup of Excellence Brazil 2019
It is with a great joy and pride that we share with you that our founder Jordan Dabov is among the jurors of the Cup of Excellence Brazil for the fourth time. In this special year he is the only representative of Bulgaria. Together with his colleagues from around the world, he will participate in the cupping sessions from 15th to 19th October and in an additional session of the top 10 coffees in the presence of the founders of Alliance for Coffee Excellence.
Additional events of the Cup of Excellence Brazil 2019
A special workshop with the participation of jurors, professors and students at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) will also take place. It was in this university where the competition was held 20 years ago and returns today for its 20th edition. The Agricultural Faculty of the UFLA has a Center for the Study of the Development of the Coffee Industry. Its representatives will present their research on specialty coffee in front of the international jury and the VIP guests of the Cup of Excellence.
Among the special guests of the COE in Lavras will be a large number of farmers and jurors from the first competition in 1999, including George Howell and Silvio Leite.
New rule of Cup of Excellence Brazil 2019
This year the competition among the best Brazilian specialty coffees is promising to be very interesting. The Alliance for Coffee Excellence has raised the bar once again in its ongoing quest to raise the quality of coffee – only 30 coffees with a score of 87 points or more will be allowed to participate in the subsequent online auction. The previous number of coffees per country was 40 with a score of 86 points and above.
We wish our coffee hunter pleasant cupping sessions. Remember that last year he managed to buy during the online auction the best Brazilian specialty coffee in the Pulped Natural section – Brazil Fazenda Paraiso COE #1 2018 and you have the pleasure to taste it every since. And in the meantime, we will tell you more about the Cup of Excellence history.
